Midfielders
Emiliano Buendia (Aston Villa)
Despite losing their key playmaker to a season-ending knee injury shortly before the last season began, Aston Villa had a remarkable campaign. Buendia, who typically played just behind Ollie Watkins in a 4-2-3-1 formation during Unai Emery’s initial season, was instrumental in both offensive and defensive phases. He created more chances from open play than any teammate and was effective in regaining possession in the final third, with only captain John McGinn outperforming him in that regard. Buendia's style aligns well with Emery's dynamic tactics, and his ability to deliver precise passes for Watkins will be a welcome boost for the striker. Villa fans will be excited to see his return.
Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa)
Ramsey was anticipated to be a crucial player last season but was hampered by injuries to his foot, hamstring, and toe, resulting in him missing 22 matches. Despite these setbacks, the 23-year-old made a notable impact in his eight starts and additional eight substitute appearances. Villa's strong performance when Ramsey was on the field underscored his importance. As a young midfielder eager to advance, he has a knack for creating opportunities in attacking positions.
Tyler Adams (Bournemouth)
Adams is well-suited to Andoni Iraola’s high-pressing approach, but his contributions were limited to just 118 minutes for Bournemouth due to two hamstring surgeries. The 25-year-old demonstrated his capabilities at Leeds United in the 2022/23 season, earning recognition as one of the league's most dynamic and tenacious midfielders. He ranked highly across key defensive metrics for central midfielders during that season.
